Downsizing is a move with a harder edit. A family house in Oatlands or Pannal will not fit a flat near the town centre, or a one-level apartment, unless a lot of furniture stays behind. The van should be booked for what is actually coming, not for the house you are leaving.
Edit before you quote
Walk each room and mark three groups: coming, going to family, and leaving. Beds are the usual surprise. A king-size bed may not suit the new room, and a second spare bed may have nowhere to stand. Sofas that filled a long lounge will block a smaller one. Measure the new rooms, or ask the agent for a floor plan, before you pay to move a piece you will then give away.
China, books and tools multiply in lofts. If children are taking some of it, put that on a separate list and a separate address. We can do two drops if they are on the quote. We do not run a storage facility. Anything you are keeping elsewhere needs an address you have arranged.
The new building
Flats and retirement-style apartments often have a booked lift, a protection rule for the hall and a time slot. Send us those rules. Family who are helping should know which rooms are priority. The first night needs a bed, a chair and the kettle. The rest can wait in labelled boxes.
