Flats and older conversions
Harrogate has purpose-built flats and houses split into apartments, including rooms above shops and larger homes divided near the town centre and around the Stray. A purpose-built block may have a lift and a service door. A conversion often has the original stair, a turn on the landing and a door that was never meant for a modern sofa.
Tell us which you have. The bedroom count alone does not set the job. Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book.
Shared halls need a clear path. We protect the surfaces we walk over and we keep the stair usable for other residents as far as the carry allows. If a concierge or a managing agent has to approve the move, arrange that before the day and send us the times.
Parking and the carry
Many flats do not have a space long enough for a removal van. In the town centre the van may have to stop further away, which means a longer carry. Residents’ bays are not automatically available to a removal vehicle. Check the signs and speak to North Yorkshire Council if a suspension is required.
Upper floors without a lift are honest work, but they take longer. We would rather quote that time than rush a wardrobe around a tight corner. If a piece will not pass, we stop and talk to you.
What travels with a flat
Beds, sofas, tables, white goods that are already disconnected, and boxes you have packed or asked us to pack. Fitted kitchens stay. We do not disconnect gas or water. Fridges should be empty and dry.
A short list can go on a man and van. A house that is not a flat belongs on house removals. Packing is available through our packing service.

Do I need to book the lift?
If the building has a booking system, you should reserve it. Tell us the time slot so we can match the crew to it.
What if there is no lift?
We carry via the stairs. A long stair or a tight turn takes more time and may need an extra person. We say so when we quote.
Can you protect the communal hallway?
Yes. We cover the route we use. If the building has its own rules on floor protection, send them with the booking.
Is a small flat a man and van job?
Often, yes, if the list is short. A large apartment with a houseful of furniture is quoted as a full flat move.
Do you cover mansion flats and conversions?
Yes. Conversions in older houses often have narrower stairs than a purpose-built block. Describe the building, not only the number of bedrooms.
